PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT
4638 County Road 11 Pequot Lakes, MN 56472 (218)568 -8201 Fax (218)568 -7672
pequotfdApequotlakes -mn. gov
TO: Pequot Lakes Mayor & City Council
FROM: Tom Nelson, Chief
DATE: September 26, 2011
RE: Purchase of a Thermal Image Camera
In 1999 we began raising money to buy a Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC), in 2000 we were
able to raise $4,000. The purchase price was $14,000. Thanks to a generous donation we
were able to purchase a TIC for the department. Since that time there have been many
advancements in the technology of the Thermal Imaging Cameras; smaller design, better
picture (pixels), cleaner background images & colorization. The cost has gone down some,
`— but they still remain over $8,000. After the last repair of our TIC the factory rep
recommended that we look at a new TIC due to the age of our unit and the lack of available
repair parts. We tried to get an AFG grant to help with costs but were denied. This prompted
us to budget for this capital purchase in our 2011 budget.
After reviewing several TIC's we have decided to purchase the Bullard TIC. This TIC was
chosen due to the durability of the camera, overall picture quality and better service with the
sales rep.
We have $10,000 in capital outlay, we have received $1,300 in donations for a total of
$11,300, the balance will come from our pancake fundraiser funds.
Action required:
Approve purchase of Thermal Imaging Camera from Fire Safety USA in the amount of
$11,750
*Attached are 2 quotes for TIC's
If you have any questions please let me know.
Thank you,
,._, /cam- %? -v✓
Tom Nelson, Chief
