Park Commission Minutes
April 13, 2017
Page 2
5. Skate Park
Chair Ronning reported the subcommittee met the previous evening. A final
concept drawing was agreed upon, although some of the elements may be
changed. Membership on the subcommittee is increasing. The next step is to
begin fundraising. Jill Andersen completed an application for a $12,000 grant.
Locations have been discussed. A parcel south of the Chamber parking lot,
across East Woodman Street and along Highway 371, is the preferred location at
this time. It is not currently right-of-way, so there may be some legal fees to
obtain City ownership. The City Hall parking lot
location will not work and the north end of City Hall property has infrastructure
issues.
When asked, Chair Ronning stated the estimated cost for the Skate Park is
$200,000 to $300,000.
6. They have a Boy Scout Troop
who has volunteered to help and will earn merit points. The Lake Association is
working on a solution for watering the new plantings.
There is a washout on the south end where the trail goes down. They plan to
repair that with grant money. There is also a washout on the last 5 feet that will
need to be repaired. The fishing pier will be moved and repaired. New steps will
be build this spring to access the pier.
Commissioner Graham inquired where the closest water faucet would be if
necessary. Mike Loven reported Sibley Lake Park has a hose fitting. Mr. Lind
stated the Lake Association will purchase a lake pump to water.
Mike Loven thanked Mr. Lind for volunteering his time and machine to trade out
the banners again.
7. Snowflakes & Banners
Mike Loven explained Mayor Adams requested the Park Commission to discuss
whether or not to put the snowflakes back up instead of the holiday banners. A
