City Council Minutes August 9, 2011 Page 2 of 8 ---------------------- - - - - -- Budget presented by Barb Carlson. The proposed 2012 HRA Levy is $38,250. This is $7,250 increase from the 2011 levy. The reason for the increase in the levy is that there is a projected shortfall on the West Grove Townhome revenues which is needed to pay the debt service of the bonds. No Council recommendations. • Library Budget presented by David Anderson. The proposed 2012 Library budget expenditures are $8,900. This is a decrease of $500 from the 2011 budget. No Council recommendations. • Library Building Budget Budget presented by David Anderson. The proposed 2012 Library Building Budget expenditures are $13,000. This is a decrease of $7,800 from the 2011 budget. No Council recommendations. • Fire Budget presented by Fire Chief Tom Nelson. The proposed 2012 Fire Department Budget expenditures are $177,900. This is an increase of $1,010 from the 2011 budget. The major reasons for the increase relate to insurance and repair, maintenance, and services. The Fire Department is asking the Council to consider budgeting for a utility vehicle to replace the existing van. Council discussion took place regarding the need for a utility vehicle. Council Member Ryan suggested that the City consider dedicating Pequot Lake's Fire Relief contribution toward equipment needs. • Planning & Zoning Budget presented by Dawn Bittner. The proposed expenditures in the 2012 Planning and Zoning Budget are $92,760. This is a decrease of $4,420 from the 2011 budget. Council Member Akerson suggested that there could more of a decrease in the budget by simplifying the ordinances. He further suggested bringing the Planning Commission down to five members. He suggested cutting the budget for Community Growth and hiring a full time planner administrator. Council Member Akerson requested information on the cost of hiring a full -time `, planner.
