Pequot Lakes Police Dept. <br /> Report to the City Council <br /> August 30, 2007 <br /> So far for the month of August the Department has logged 525 individual ICRs. <br /> Current Activities: <br /> The Reserves, Part time and Full time Officers conducted over 610 business and home security checks <br /> throughout the month of July. During these security checks 3 instances of open doors were found at <br /> various businesses. <br /> The whole Department is gearing up for the start of School in preparation for the additional morning and <br /> after school traffic, sporting events and other activities and the installation of Kate Petersen as the new <br /> School Resource Officer (SRO). Reserve Officers will again help this year with crowd patrol —control at <br /> several of the football games and other extracurricular activities. <br /> Training: <br /> Aug 5: Officer Josh Gartner provided Taser Re-Certification training for the whole department, <br /> including the part time officers. <br /> Aug 13 - 17: Officer Kate Petersen attended the National School Resource Officer(SRO) training in <br /> St. Paul, in preparation for working in the school this fall. <br /> Significant Cases: <br /> The Department has been involved in a significant employee theft, embezzlement case from a local <br /> area small business. The thefts in excess of$101,000 occurred over a period of years, which were only <br /> recently discovered. Formal charges include Diversion of Corporate Property and 4 counts of Felony <br /> Theft. <br /> Officers continue to concentrate their efforts on reducing the speeds on all roadways, including the <br /> Highway and the illegal passing on the right shoulder, especially at intersections. This is an ongoing <br /> effort to increase everyone's safety while traveling in and through our community. <br /> Community Policing: <br /> The Community Policing expenditure committee met for the first time. On the Committee are, Chief <br /> Braam, Office Manager Janet Wedan, Deputy Clerk Nancy Malecha, Council members Jim Oraskovich <br /> and Tom Ryan. The committee is working on a mission statement and funds request guidelines at this <br /> time to aid in the process of accepting and fulfilling funds requests. <br /> The Committee did review several requests and approved providing funds to three programs. The first <br /> is Quest, which is a Character Building program that the School district will implement into the school <br /> curriculum and is used all the way through, from k— 12th grade. The second is Inter-Quest, which is an <br /> Independent contractor which utilizes K9 units to do searches for drugs, alcohol and prescription <br /> medications. The school will use this program on 10 separate occasions throughout the year. The third <br /> program receiving funds was the Rose Family Quilts for Kids. The Rose family and other community <br /> volunteers provide area law enforcement, ambulance and fire departments with homemade quilts to be <br /> distributed to kids in crisis situations. <br /> Respe ull Submitted, <br /> Jer Braam <br /> `..
