Proposal for purchasing a new pick up truck for the Pequot Lakes Fire Department.
The Pequot Lakes Fire Department is currently looking at purchasing a used 1997 F350
— Pickup for $12,500.00
This truck is a crew cab - 4 door - it will haul 6 firefighters. We plan to use this truck at brush
fires and all rescue applications - whether it's ice rescue or car accidents.
The Breezy Point police dept. has given us a light bar for this truck, we have a radio and siren
that we will take from another truck. We also have a pump that we plan on installing on this
truck.
This pick up is red & white, so no painting will have to be done. The cost for adding lettering
(Pequot Lakes Fire & Rescue) would be minimal - approx. $200 or less.
The current pick up the fire department uses now is a 1986 standard cab pick up - which can
only haul 2-3 firefighters. It is a military truck we received from the state at no cost. This
truck runs on a 24V system, it has had starter problems and lite/electrical problems.
We do plan to keep the 86 pick up as a back up. This is a state vehicle, so we cannot sell it,
it has to go back to the state when we are done with it.
We are planning on returning the 1974 State truck back to the DNR. By returning this truck,
our insurance costs for vehicles should pretty much stay the same (we will not be "adding"
another truck, the number of vehicles will be staying the same).
-}- At the beginning of March we currently have a balance of: $23,058.98 in our budget.
We also have $5,021 .00 in a savings account set up for purchasing fire trucks.
We would like to propose the following:
Use $5,000.00 from savings account
Use $6,200.00 from the motor vehicle portion of our budget
Use $1 ,300 from the capital outlay portion of our budget
Total: $12,500.00
Any taxes / license fees would also come out of our budget.
We have been looking at the State for over 2 years for a crew cab style truck, but none have
been available.
The Fire Department would like the council to approve the purchase of this truck.
**Also, someone has given us a snowmobile trailer. We would like the council to approve this
donation. It is an 8 x 10 aluminum trailer given to us at no cost. We would like to use this
trailer for our ice rescue operations.
