Applications: The City of Pequot Lakes processed 130 permits in 2003:
2003 Permits
Permit Type Number
-Building 93
CUP 4
Demolition 4
Lot Splits 6
Plats Final &Preliminary) 7
-Rezoning 6
Sin 6
Variance 4
Total 130
The majority of these permits were building permits for new construction. Over one third
of the construction was for new single-family homes, duplexes and cabins. Most permits
for new homes also included permits for garages. Detached garages and other accessory
structures including sheds and pole barns accounted for nearly another third of building
permits. The remaining permits were for additions, decks, porches, basements, and other
miscellaneous construction, including one commercial auto body shop.
Most building permit applications for large construction projects were submitted in the
first half of the year(note the spike in fee revenue in Figure 1 during the month of April
primarily from a few large construction projects), while smaller building permits and
. special permit applications were submitted in the second half of the year. Of the special
permits, seven preliminary and final plat applications were processed for the proposed
Evergreen, Voyagers Pass, and The Ridge subdivisions.
There were a high number of rezoning requests. This reflects the difficult situation we
are in as a growing city with two separate, and distinct, zoning maps (Pequot Lakes city
and the former Sibley Township maps). We hope to reduce the need for rezoning in 2004
by completing the Comprehensive Plan process and formally merging the two zoning
maps together into one.
Fees: Fees collected were directly correlated to the number of and type of applications
received. Fee revenue collected in 2003 totaled $31,000. Except for a marked peak in
fees in the month of April, revenue from permit fees tended to be highest during the
summer and early fall (Figure 1):
