_ �r <br /> V V <br /> Wina, ce (11a. 104 yes- <br /> Regulating the Construction or Alteration of Buildings and Requiring a permit, Therefore: <br /> The Village Council of Pequot Lakes do ordain as follows: <br /> SECTION 1. (Foundations)—Foundation walls shall be required under every dwelling or com- <br /> mercial building hereafter constructed or rebuilt. Foundation walls shall be at least eight inches <br /> thick and constructed of either stone, concrete blocks, brick or other hard durable material ap- <br /> proved by the village building inspector. All foundation wall shall be carried up at least eight <br /> inches above the finished grade, and the wall footings at least two feet and six inches below the fin- <br /> ished grade or deeper if necessary to reach suitable bearing soil. All sheds having an area of over <br /> one hundred and twenty square feet and all private garages built hereafter shall rest on founda- <br /> tion walls of approved fireproof material, which walls including footing shall be at least eight in- <br /> ches wide and at least ten inches deep. <br /> SECTION 2. (Chimneys)—In every building hereafter erected, altered or repaired within the <br /> Village of Pequot Lakes, all chimneys shall be constructed of brick or other incombustible material <br /> approved by the Village building inspector. No chimneys in any building shall be cut off below, in <br /> whole or in part, and supported on brackets, but shall be wholly supported by masonry resting up- <br /> on a footing properly constructed at least two feet and six inches below grade and deeper if neces- <br /> sary to rest on sound bearing soil. Chimney footings shall be of concrete of at least twelve inches <br /> deep and at least six inches larger than the chimney size each way. Brick chimneys shall be at <br /> least eight inches thick if unlined, or four inches thick if lined with approved flue lining for the full <br /> height of the chimney. <br /> SECTION 3. (Studdings, Joists and Rafters)—All studdings, joists and rafters shall be of such size <br /> and quality as to safely sustain the loads to be carried and in dwelling or commercial structures <br /> shall be spaced not greater than 16 inches on center, except where, in the opinion of the building <br /> inspector, special framing around openings justify slight variations from same. All floor openings <br /> shall have double headers and all carrying partitions and outside walls shall have double top <br /> plates. Window and door openings shall have double headers. <br /> SECTION 4. (Electric Wiring)—In every building, all wiring apparatus or appliances for furn- <br /> ishing light, heat or power, shall be in strict conformity with the statutes of the State of Minnesota, <br /> the rules and regulations issued by the Railroad and Warehouse Commission, the State Fire Marsh- <br /> all and the Industrial Commission of Minnesota and in conformity with approved methods of con- <br /> struction for safety to life and property. <br /> SECTION 5. (Correction of Unsafe Conditions)—Wherever any building or structure is found to <br /> be in a condition dangerous to its occupants or other persons, or adjacent property, or to be unsafe <br /> for its intended use in the opinion of the village building inspector, he shall report to the village <br /> council who shall have authority to notify in writing, the owner, agent or person in charge thereof, <br /> requiring such changes or removal to be made as may be necessary to correct the condition de- <br /> scribed and shall fix a time limit for its correction, and may also place at the entrance of such <br /> strucure a notice stating the building is in a dangerous condition and has been condemned, and it <br /> shall be unlawful for any person to remove such notice without written permission from the village <br /> council. <br /> SECTION 6. (Building Permits)—No person may erect any structure of any kind or add to the <br /> outside dimensions thereof, nor relocate any building already constructed or which may hereaf- <br /> ter be constructed, within the village limits of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, without first making ap- <br /> plication to and procuring from the village clerk a building permit to do so before such work is <br />
