PROPOSED RESOLUTION <br /> Whereas property taxes tend to be highest and most burdensome in cities, and in the <br /> absence of some action by the state legislature municipal property taxes in the city <br /> cf Pegtot Lakes will increase in 1976 and 1977, and <br /> Whereas the city council of Pe Q not Lakes strongly favors the reduction of <br /> municipal property taxes, and the most feasible way of accomplishing this without <br /> drastically reducing essential municipal services is through the distribution of <br /> railroad and telephone gross earnings taxes to cities as proposed by Governor <br /> Anderson, and <br /> Whereas local units of government receive no property taxes or other taxes from rail- <br /> road or telephone property and the City of Peauot Lakes will receive <br /> approximately $ 12 ,270.27 under the proposed distribution of telephone and rail- <br /> road gross earnings in 1976, and <br /> 'hereas this method of tax reduction is preferable to other alternatives being <br /> considered. <br /> NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF PEQU OT LAKES <br /> respectfully urges the Minnesota State Legislature to distribute all of the telephone <br /> and railroad gross earnings taxes, amounting to $46 million in 1976 and $49 million <br /> in 1977, to local units of government as proposed by Governor Anderson, and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be transmitted to the Governor <br /> of the State of Minnesota, Members of the State Legislature and the League of Minne- <br /> sota Municipalities. <br />
