T0: Pequot Lake Fire District and Ideal Township Fire Department
FROM: )oe Rudberg, Clerk/Administrator, City of Breezy Point
April 20, 2011
RE: Fire Contract Costs, 2010 and 2011
The city of Breezy Point has recently seen a tax appeal that significantly affects our
taxable value for the city. This appeal reduced values for taxes payable in 2010 making
it retroactive. It also adjusted the value in 2011 with no corresponding change in the
total value shown by the county for taxes payable in 2011.
The tax appeal was made by Whitebirch, Inc. and included all property they own. Their
total market value went from $26,787,300 to $16,935,900 for 2010. For taxes payable
in 2011 the values had been established at $24,349,700 to $11,491,300. In looking at
Tax Capacity the impact is shown as follows:
2010 Tax Capacity Loss is $148,173
2011 Tax Capacity Loss is $202,631
The result of this is the city will collect $117,782 less anticipated tax revenue in 2011
than was anticipated.
With the Fire Contract costs being, in part, calculated using taxable values of the city of
Breezy Point we wish to see consideration made to address the reduction in value. The
value change was retroactive and as such we would like to see some credit made in
future fire contract amounts as we paid more than the formula determined based on
past valuations that have since been changed.
`...
