RESOLUTION 06-06 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF PEQUOT LAKES <br /> A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF RETAINING FIRE TOWER <br /> PROPERTY AS FORESTED LAND <br /> WHEREAS, the DNR forty-acre parcel of property located within the city limits of <br /> Pequot Lakes is known as scattered land and is not considered to be part of <br /> a State forest; and <br /> WHEREAS, the forty-acre parcel of land is of historical value to Pequot Lakes and <br /> surrounding communities because of the well known fire tower located on <br /> the land; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Pequot Lakes comprehensive plan suggests that the city <br /> promote parks and calls for this particular 40 acres to remain forested; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Pequot Lakes would maintain the land as a regional park to <br /> promote green space, tourism and would be used as an educational center <br /> for our school system; and <br /> WHEREAS, prior to the Pequot Lakes—Sibley Township friendly annexation, Sibley <br /> Township had the foresight to see the value in the property and worked <br /> with the DNR to provide a paved parking area, picnic area and a paved <br /> trail to the fire tower; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Pequot Lakes City Council hereby requests that the deed to the <br /> property be transferred from the Department of Natural Resources to the <br /> City of Pequot Lakes to be used and managed as a park. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Pequot Lakes City Council hereby <br /> states that this property would be a valuable asset not only to the City of <br /> Pequot Lakes but also to surrounding communities, tourists, and the <br /> education system. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Pequot Lakes City Council intends to pursue <br /> ownership of this valuable land with the support of our community. <br /> Passed and adopted by the Pequot Lakes City Council thtfs 7th day of February, 2006. <br /> "--e//4///i/ <br /> Cathy Malecha, Mayor <br /> ATTEST: <br /> Sandra A.
