Park Board Minutes
February 14th, 2008
Page 2
of MN regarding the City's liability of removing the stairs from the chair.
His statement was that no matter what we do, we could be held liable.
Mark suggested putting a couple of extra horizontal leg railings on the
front (ladder affect) and some form of a hand rail attached to one leg to
make it easier and safer to climb. Also, post a sign wording it as
"CLIMB AT YOUR OWN RISK. THIS IS NOT PLAYGROUND
EQUIPMENT. FOR PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES ONLY". This would
outline a specific use and somewhat clarify that they use the chair for
that purpose at their own risk.
MOTION MADE BY COMMISSIONER DEN HARTOG TO REMOVE
THE STAIRS AND LANDING AND POST A SIGN STATING "CLIMB
AT YOUR OWN RISK THIS IS NOT PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT.
FOR PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES ONLY"". COMMISSIONR TWEED
SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 3 — 1.
6. Christmas Light Storage (Shed)
Chair Anderson stated the Board received authorization from the
water/wastewater supervisor to store Christmas lights in the water
tower for now and will discuss the issue of building a storage shed in
the spring.
Mike Loven informed the Board that Minnesota Power Company will
put up and take down Christmas lights for free.
7. Signs
Sandy informed the Board that the Planning Commission has added
sign identification to their agenda for their next meeting.
8. Garden Maintenance — Update from Del on Sentence to Serve
Chair Anderson spoke to Pete who handles the Sentence to Serve
program. Pete stated they can not work on a schedule but could help
with projects. Chair Anderson suggested having the sentence to serve
help with the big project around the gazebo.
Commissioner Den Hartog had spoken to Ennenga's Garden Center
who expressed interest in helping with design and planting around the
gazebo. The Board stated they could put in a sign stating the garden
was designed by Ennenga's as advertisement if they were to help with
it. Commissioner Den Hartog will talk with them again.
