COMMUNITY GROWTH
I N S T I T U T E
MEMORANDUM
To: City of Pequot Lakes Park Board
From: Lisa Barajas, City Planner
Date: January 31, 2006
Re: Map of Parks
The Park Board is charged with the planning and maintenance in parks in the City, as well as
making recommendations to the Planning Commision on park dedication fees and/or land
dedications within new subdivisions.
In order to better plan the park system in the City, it would help to have a map of exisitng parks and
existing plats. We are currently working on the plat map and need to finalize some details of plat
boundaries, and that will be ready by the next Park Board meeting. The park map, however, is a
little more difficult to assemble without having a more intimate knowledge of the City. We have
pulled out from the County's parcel data all properties that are owned by the City, Crow Wing
County, Independent School District #186, the Pequot Cemetary Assocation, the Department of
Natural Resources, and the Township of Sibley. In addition, we have added the Paul Bunyan Trail,
The Preserve Golf Course, and all tax forfeited properties.
We need assistance in completing the map. Obviously, not all the City-owned properties are parks.
We are requesting that each Park Board member spend the next month drawing on the working
maps to show the locations of existing parks and please include their names. Some properties, like
the DNR properties and the tax forfeited properties, may serve recreational purposes even if they
aren't marked officially as parks. If this is the case, please mark that on the maps. For example, the
DNR property just north of Middle Cullen might be open for hunting or hiking purposes. Properties
like the School District ones were included because there are recreational facilities available there.
Please take the time to fill out as much of the working map as you can prior to the March meeting so
that we can discuss everybody's maps at that meeting.
14084 Baxter Drive, Suite 7
Baxter, MN 56425
(218) 828-3064
www.communitygrowth.com
