PEQUOT LAKES PARK COMMISSION
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2011
CITY HALL
Members Present: Commissioners Jeff Bruch, Karen Ettesvold, Faye Tweed,
and Chair Pete Clement
Also Present: Sandy Peine, City Clerk; Council Member Cathy Malecha;
and Mayor Adams
1. Call Meeting to Order
The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Chair Clement.
2. 9/8/11 Park Commission Minutes
COMMISSIONER BRUCH MOVED TO APPROVE THE 9/8/2011 PARK
COMMISSION MINUTES. CHAIR CLEMENT SECONDED THE MOTION.
MOTION CARRIED 4-0.
3. Master Park Plan Discussion
Karen Ettesvold updated the Commission on the meeting that the
Planning Commission held at the Trailside Park last month. She explained
that the Planning Commission made some suggestions to enhance the
park. It was suggested to move some of the bushes and trees because
they blocked the trail. It was felt that moving the trees would make the
park more user-friendly. The Planning Commission suggested moving or
cutting trees down by the picnic shelter to create a more peaceful area
looking down the hill at Dru's garden and to add amenities such as
benches and a water fountain. Another suggestion was to create some
type of berm by the band shelter to better define the seating area. The
Park Commission discussed this idea and felt that a sidewalk with
benches would work best.
The Mayor stated that Chuck Marohn and the Planning Commission is
working on a master park plan and would present it to the Park
Commission for input. The Commission requested the Clerk to invite
Chuck Marohn to the next Park Commission meeting in November.
4. Memorial for Del Anderson
The Mayor noted that Del's daughter had contacted her about donating
some money for a memorial in the park in Del's honor. The Commission
members noted that it had been previously decided to plant a memorial
tree for Del. Cathy Malecha suggested planting a tree to replace a birch
that is dying by the band shelter. The Mayor noted that she would pass on
the information to Del's daughter.
5. Field of Dreams Park
