City of <br /> f <br /> 2 equot <br /> Lakes— <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> CHOKECHERRY CAPITOL OF MINNESOTA <br /> WHEREAS, Chokecherry tree planting goes as far back as 1724; and <br /> WHEREAS, the blooms are white and flower throughout the spring and summer <br /> enhancing the beauty of our community; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Chokecherry tree is now primarily used to control erosion problems by <br /> conserving precious topsoil and is also used for ornamentation of the <br /> landscape; and <br /> WHEREAS, the fruit of the Chokecherry is edible and many jams,jellies,preserves, <br /> syrup, and even wines are made from the Chokecherry tree fruit; and <br /> WHEREAS, not only does Chokecherry Tree planting benefit mankind, it is a boon to <br /> animals such as black bears, raccoons, chipmunks, and cotton tail rabbits <br /> as well with more than 40 different species of birds enjoying the fruits of <br /> the Chokecherry; and <br /> WHEREAS, there are numerous Chokecherry trees planted in the City of Pequot Lakes; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, the Lion's Club host an annual Chokecherry Festival in the City of Pequot <br /> Lakes. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Pequot Lakes City Council does <br /> hereby proclaim: <br /> THE CITY OF PEQUOT LAKES AS <br /> CHOKECHERRY CAPITOL OF MINNESOTA <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council urges all citizens to support its <br /> efforts by protecting the existing Chokecherry trees in the City and by continuing to plant <br /> more Chokecherry trees to be enjoyed and cherished by future generations. <br /> Passed and adopted by the Pequot Lakes City Council this 1st day of June, 2010 <br /> ah� � <br /> Nancy A. <br /> b./44,-/) Mayor andra A.
