Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
St. Paul, Minnesota 55155
Dear Governor Pawlenty,
On behalf of the City of Pequot Lakes, the Pequot Lakes Park Board, and the Pequot
Lakes Lions Club,I am formally asking that Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, be declared THE
CHOKECHERRY CAPITOL OF MINNESOTA.
For the past several years, our City and Lions Club have hosted a Chokecherry Festival
each August, an event that has grown each year. While we have numerous chokecherry
trees in our area, this May, for the first time, the Park Board will be selling 400
Chokecherry trees throughout the community, a sale that is to become an annual event.
We have researched the title and find that, as of the present time, Minnesota has not
declared a Chokecherry Capitol. Pequot Lakes would very much like to have this title—
we will make Minnesota proud!
Sincerely,
Nancy A. Adams
Mayor
Cc: Faye Tweed, President of the Park Board
Molly Ring, Chair of the Lions Club
Cathy Malecha, Council Liaison to the Park Board
