At minimum, specially designed highway <br /> 22 shoulders can provide short connections; however, the City should seek to provide trails or sidewalks <br /> 23 separate from the road wherever feasible. <br /> 24 ❑ Manage existing public lakeshore carefully to maximize public benefit without negatively impacting the <br /> 25 natural lake ecosystem.Encourage complementery uses and balance. <br /> 26 0 Limit the impact of new lakeshore developments through scenic and natural preservation standards. <br /> 27 0 Create a master plan that designates potential priority sites for future parks, a public swimming beach, <br /> 28 playgrounds, and trail sites and corridors. The locations of these sites should be done according to site <br /> 29 analysis and established criteria.Acquire these sites through purchase,gift, or trade; and develop them as <br /> 30 needed. <br /> 31 Always look initially at the existing public land base and explore joint management and expansion of <br /> 32 existing facilities before private land is acquired for the future development of local recreation facilities <br /> 33 such as trails,parks,camping and picnicking. <br /> 34 ❑ Work with local Lake Associations to regulate water surface use on City lakes by establishing no-wake <br /> 35 zones,traffic management strategies, horsepower limits and time-of-day use restrictions. <br /> 36 PREVIOUSLY COMPLETED ACTIONS <br /> 37 ❑ Charge the City's Parks and Recreation Committee with directing the implementation of these strategies. <br /> 38 ❑ Reevaluate the requirement of park dedication fees in new subdivisions and planned unit developments. <br /> 39 ❑ Inventory and catalogue all public land parcels in the City and seek to expand recreational uses on these <br /> 40 parcels. <br /> 20 IPage <br />
