He stated that a project like this would need the backing of
the legislators.
Commissioner Clement questioned if there would be other uses for the
land other than equine sports? Mr. Nelson said that all uses would have to
be equestrian friendly activities since this is the purpose for the grant. He
indicated this would include activities that are non-motorized such as
snow-shoeing, cross country skiing, hiking, etc.
The Commission asked how much land they are considering to purchase
and questioned the cost of the land. Brenda Myers indicated that the land
size is 276 acres and the cost is $750,000. She noted that the Minnesota
Horse Park organization has $10,000 which they just received as a grant
to put toward the project.
The Commission discussed how to proceed. The Commission also noted that they would need
public involvement and input. The Commission stated that it would need a
clearer picture as to what the City's involvement would be, what are the
stipulations of the grant, and how much money would be needed to front
the grant. It was noted that there is a 25% match to the grant.
It was the consensus of the group to contact the City Planner to discuss
whether this should go to the Planning Commission.
5. Park Surveys
The Commissioners reviewed the surveys that have been returned and
compiled.
6. Sign Concept
The Clerk updated the Commission on the Planning Commission's
discussion regarding the sign for the gazebo. She stated that the Planning
Commission suggested that a banner be used to advertise the bands.
7.
