Located on the shores of Sibley Lake on Pequot Boulevard, Sibley Lake Park is a native <br /> red pine forest. Approximately acres in size, it would be considered a = park. <br /> Amenities include a picnic shelter,picnic tables, a swing set, playground equipment, and <br /> a fishing pier accessed by a set of steep stairs leading down to the lake. The park is on a <br /> bluff above Sibley Lake. This park has suffered frequently from vandalism. <br /> Proposed Improvements <br /> The Park Commission is meeting June 14 to evaluate Sibley Lake Park <br /> Historic Fire Tower <br /> Add pictures <br /> Assessment <br /> Located approximately 1/4 mile from the center of Pequot Lakes,the Historic Fire Tower <br /> is actually owned by the DNR, but the City maintains the area. There are picnic tables, a <br /> barbeque stand and a paved parking lot that has a walking trail up to the tower. <br /> Currently,the tower itself is closed. There is a local group working with the DNR to <br /> repair and maintain and,therefore, reopen the tower as soon as possible. Funds are <br /> currently being raised through the Pequot Lakes Historical Society for this project. The <br /> DNR has agreed to maintain ownership of the tower and provide insurance. <br /> Proposed Improvements <br /> . Replace and/or repair stairs or platforms necessary <br /> . Improve walking trail from parking lot to the tower <br /> . Locate a cab (top part of tower)that can be placed in area for visitors to enter without <br /> climbing to top <br /> Future Parks Planning <br /> At this time, the effort of the Park Commission will be directed primarily to improving <br /> existing parks, trails and open space. Working to connect snowmobile, bike, and walking <br /> trails is another focus. <br /> However, if there is an opportunity to protect scenic views or to obtain prime park <br /> locations and high quality natural resource lands for future park expansion,the Park <br /> Commission should look to acquire the land. <br /> Maintenance and Operations <br /> An important consideration in system planning is the expected maintenance and <br /> �.., operation of system components.
