The following picture and article were included in
the Summer, 2015 edition of The Sibley Steward, the
official newsletter of the Sibley Lake Association.
Sibley Park Erosion Issues
Erosion continues to be problem at the fishing pier and
the board voted to spend funds to correct the situation.
This will be a temporary measure to control the erosion
until the City decides what it will do about the area. The
Association Board agreed to not commit funds to a
permanent solution when the area may be dug up in the
future. However the Board felt the erosion was
significant enough to warrant spending some monies to
correct the situation on a temporary basis.
Additionally, members of the Board and the Watershed
Taskforce met with the City Park Board to voice our
concerns regarding the erosion issue and propose
a possible collaboration between the City and the Lake
Association. We proposed a plan where the City would
remove the current steps, which are becoming
dangerous, and construct a trail along the old roadbed
which would connect to the lake North of the current
pier location.
The Association will seek funding through
Legacy Grants with the assistance of the Crow Wing Soil
and Water Department to replant the step area and
current pier access with native vegetation to control
water flow and eliminate erosion. The Park Board was
supportive of the collaboration and voted to present the
matter to the City Council for further review.
\tt.
