1/1/: - <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 142 <br /> AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO THE ISSUANCE OF PERMITS TO PEDDLERS, <br /> CANVASSERS AND TRANSIENT MERCHANTS AND PROVIDING <br /> PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION <br /> The City Council of the City of Pequot Lakes does ordain: <br /> Section 1 . The Green River Anti-Peddler Ordinance and all <br /> amendments thereof are herby repealed and replaced by the following <br /> provisions: <br /> Section 2. Permit Required. It shall be unlawful for any <br /> peddler, canvasser or trasient merchant as defined in Section 3 of <br /> this ordinance, to engage in any such business within the City of <br /> Pequot Lakes without first obtaining a permit therefor in compliance <br /> with the provisions of this ordinance. <br /> Section 3. Definition. When used in this ordiance, the following <br /> terms shall have the following meanings: <br /> (a) "Peddler" shall include any person who goes from <br /> house to house offering the goods, wares or merchandise <br /> in possession for sale. <br /> (b) "Canvasser" shall included any person who goes from <br /> house to house soliciting or taking or attempting <br /> to take orders for the sale of goods, ware or <br /> merchandise to be delivered in the future. <br /> (c) "Transient Merchant" shall include any person, firm <br /> or corporation, whether as owner, agent, consignee, <br /> or employee, who engages in a temporary business of <br /> selling and delivering goods, wares or merchandise <br /> within said City. <br /> Section 4. Exemptions. The terms of this ordinance, except <br /> those in Section 6, shall not be held to include vendors of milk, <br /> bakery products, groceries, food products and others who distribute <br /> their products to regular customers on established routes, nor to <br /> newsboys, nor to farmers who shall vend, sell or offer to sell <br /> products of their garden, grown during the Minnestoa growing season, <br /> nor to any sale required by statute or by order of any court, nor to <br /> any religious, political and charitable organization, or to prevent <br /> any person conducting a bona fide auction sale pursuant to law. <br /> Section 5.
