Box 361
Pequot Lakes, MN 56471
Re: Control Section 1810 (TH 371)
Pequot Lakes/Sibley Township
TH 371Corridor Access Management Plan
Dear Marty:
The Minnesota Department of Transportation's (Mn/DOT) District 3 staff has reviewed the preliminary
plan submitted by the city engineer and responds with the following comments.
1. According to Mn/DOT's new access standards for this category of road segment, the proper spacing
between intersections is one mile between full access intersections and 1/2 mile between intersections
with restricted access. The standard for intermediate restricted access is right in/right out only. The
Trunk Highway (TH) 371 corridor plan has been reviewed from this perspective.
\.-
2. Access proposed for two intersections does not comply with standards. The District's position is
that a left turn onto TH 371 from West Lake St. is not acceptable, and the full access at Morehouse
Drive must be restricted to right in/right only.
3. All other accesses are acceptable as proposed. However, the Potential Future Signal labels should
be removed from the full access intersections. This type of label tends to raise expectations for the
short term future that may not be warranted.
4. All current business accesses to TH 371 would be closed and redirected to the service road system.
The City/Township will provide controlled access to the State for TH 371.
District Three staff welcomes the pro-active stance assumed by P°^;'>t Lakes and Sibley Township
regarding highway access and look forward to working with you in the future. If you have questions or
issues that need discussion, please contact me at 218-828-2369.
Sincerely,
-z.,,ti.y ;1< cf„_: s
Terry Nichols
District State Aid Assistant
■.. cc: Tim Houle/Mark Hallan (WSN)
Kelvin Howieson
Gary Dirlam
Terry Humbert
Curt Eastlund
An equal opportunity employer
