Box 361
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
RE: Planning &Zoning — Branches Plat
Dear Ms. Peisch:
On July 22, 2002, Joni Tulenchik asked me to provide comment to Planning and Zoning
regarding the preliminary plat of Branches, a residential development in Sec. 3, T136N,
R29W. Specifically, she inquired as to the possibility of providing a trail connection from
said residential development to the Paul Bunyan State Trail.
The DNR is willing to consider a municipal trail connection that is built to DNR
specifications. We are willing to meet with the Petitioner and the City to discuss the
conditions under which the DNR would authorize a trail connection, and to provide
copies of our trail development specifications.
Trail connection considerations include, but are not limited to:
1. safe approach grade, sightlines, signage, and turning radiuses.
2. paving specifications and trail width, and
3. maintenance commitments.
Please be advised that the DNR has a matching grant program that the City of Baxter
has used successfully to complete some of its trail projects that will eventually connect
with the Paul Bunyan State Trail. For your convenience, an informational brochure on
3- these grant programs is enclosed. I would like to draw your attention to the local trail
connections grant program as the suitable opportunity for this project.
On a related matter, DNR routinely requests a 50-foot setback for any structures and
improvements on lots abutting the State Trail property.
DNR Information: 651-296-6157 • 1-888-646-6367 • TTY: 651-296-5484 • 1-800-657-3929
An Equal Opportunity Employer I1 Printed on Recycled Paper Containing a
Who Values Diversity ‘sea Minimum of 20%Post-Consumer Waste
