PEQUOT LAKES PLANNING&ZONING COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING JUNE 17, 1997
The regular meeting of the Pequot Lakes Planning & Zoning Commission was called to order by Chairman M.
Jurchen on Tuesday,June 17, 1997,at 7:06 p.m.at the Pequot Lakes City Hall.
Roll call: M.Jurchen;G.Welu;G.Jenson;F.Martinson;and J.Thompson all present. Absent none.
Motion by F.Martinson to approve the minutes as presented for the Board of Adjustment meeting 5/19/97. Motion
seconded by J.Thompson and unanimously carried.
Motion by G. Welu to approve the minutes as presented for the Planning Commission meeting 5/19/97. Motion
seconded by F.Martinson and unanimously carried.
The commission discussed rezoning the DNR trail property East of the blacktopped trail, West of Government
Drive and North of East Sibley Street. The commission expressed concern with public safety and retaining the
aesthetic integrity of the trail and park property. United Building Center is currently negotiating with Burlington
Northern Railroad and the Department of Natural Resources to purchase this property. No action was taken.
The commission reviewed a letter from John Christianson requesting input on a possible variance if he purchased
the building located at 104 Front Street. The commission was unable to comment on whether or not a variance
would be granted until a public hearing was held. It was suggested that Mr. Christianson purchase the property
contingent upon a variance being approved to enlarge the existing building on a non-conforming lot.
The commission members agreed that they should meet with the city council members every two-three months to
discuss the comprehensive plan and the zoning ordinance.
The commission discussed the following issues to be placed on the next regular agenda: city wide parking;
inventory of available parking; tree removal; meeting with tree board; updating comprehensive plan and zoning
ordinance;and review of state statute requirements for on-site septic systems.
The commission will hold a workshop on July 15, 1997, at 6:30 p.m. The zoning administrator was instructed to
send out post cards to all property owners, members of PLADO, chamber representatives and publish a notice of
this meeting.
Motion by G. Welu and seconded by J. Thompson to adjourn the meeting at 8:00 p.m. Motion carried
unanimously.
Terri Russell,City Clerk Mark Jurchen,Chairman
