PEQUOT LAKES PLANNING&ZONING COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING,MARCH 18,1997 The regular meeting of the Pequot Lakes Planning & Zoning Commission was called to order by Chairman M. Jurchen on Tuesday, March 18, 1997 at 6:57 p.m. at the Pequot Lakes City Hall. Roll call: M. Jurchen; J. Thompson; G. Jenson; G. Welu and F. Martinson present. Absent none. Motion by G. Welu and seconded by F. Martinson to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as presented. Motion carried unanimously. Gerald Carlson explained to the Commission that he would like to build a workshop on the parcel (35' x 83') on the north side of his property. He builds log furniture and would eventually like to attach this building to the existing garage on Lots 20-23, Block 1, Brunes Addn. The Commission discussed whether this would fit the ordinance requirements of a home occupation. Mr. Carlson requested permission to construct a 24' x 30' garage and may be unable to meet the setback requirements. Motion by G. Welu and seconded by F. Martinson to hold a public hearing for Mr. Carlson's variance to be held April 15, 1997 at 6:30 p.m. at the Pequot Lakes City Hall, pending the receipt of necessary paperwork. Motion carried unanimously. Chairman M. Jurchen informed the Commission that the City Council had approved their request to attend both land use planning workshops. The Commission reviewed the complaint received on Jeanne Johnston's off-site sign and her greenhouse which had collapsed under the weight of the snow this winter. The Zoning Administrator sent her a letter informing her that off-site signs are not allowed and that she must remove the sign she has at the corner of TH 371 and E. Sibley Street within 7 days. The Building Inspector spoke with Ms. Johnston today and she informed him that the greenhouse would be removed in a week. Ms. Johnston was issued a 6- month temporary permit for the greenhouse and has informed the building inspector that she will be putting in a permanent structure this year. The Commission changed the date of the regular May meeting to Monday, May 19th due to May 20th being school board elections. The Commission instructed the Zoning Administrator to contact Brandanger Office Supply and find out how long the sign they have leaning against the building on the sidewalk will be there and/or whether it will be placed on the front of the building. Chairman M. Jurchen updated the Commission on the storm sewer project. The Commission agreed that a workshop should be held, to discuss the comprehensive plan, between the commission and the council after the commission members have attended the land use planning workshops.
