, <br /> PEQUOT LAKES <br /> PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION <br /> REGULAR MEETING <br /> JANUARY 18, 2000 <br /> The regular meeting of the Pequot Lakes Planning & Zoning <br /> Commission was called to order by Chairman F. Martinson at 6:30 p.m. in the <br /> Council Chambers of Pequot Lakes City Hall. Present were F. Martinson, J. <br /> Thompson, T. Saccoman, G. Welu and C. Clarke. <br /> MOTION BY G. WELU AND SECONDED BY T.SACCOMAN <br /> THAT THE MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 16, 1999 MEETING BE <br /> APPROVED. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. <br /> STEVE VOSS— MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF <br /> TRANSPORTATION <br /> Present was Mr. Steve Voss the District Planner from the Minnesota <br /> Department of Transportation, District Three, Brainerd. Mr. Voss explained <br /> that he would give the Commission members an overview of the activities on <br /> Highway 371 and focus on the Pequot Lakes area. <br /> He began with a long-range plan that MNDOT had put together. This will lay <br /> down the foundation for the recommendations that they will need over the <br /> next 20 years for this particular area of Highway 371. Mr. Voss added there <br /> were 24 meetings held in 1998 to obtain input from the public on the <br /> importance of different roads. There were Projection maps handed out for <br /> traffic counts in the next 20 years. The results from the traffic projection <br /> showed the average day peak, the every day traffic peaks. The roads are rated <br /> with a level of service A through F with F being the most severely congested. <br /> The area form Nisswa to Pine River was rated a level E, significant <br /> congestion. The actual volume in this area is about 17,200 vehicles a day. <br /> The second projection map was on the Recreational Peaks. There are <br /> automatic traffic recorders set up at different locations which monitor traffic, <br /> 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. MNDOT has used this to see the recreational <br /> peaks, the summer months, the Fourth of July and Memorial Day, the <br />
