PEQUOT LAKES
PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
JUNE 19, 2001,
Tommy Woog called the regular meeting of the Pequot Lakes Planning and Zoning
Commission to order at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Pequot Lakes City Hall.
Present were: Jerry Thompson, Tommy Woog and Dona Trenkenschuh. Absent were Carrie
Walsh and Tony Maurer.
OLD BUSINESS: Bob Beck was not present at the meeting.
JOINT MEETING WITH SIBLEY TOWNSHIP: Jim Clark was invited by Tommy Woog to
demonstrate the filming of various meetings and it's value to the public. It is a way to increase
government participation with the residents of the community. Funds are available to purchase
the equipment through the Heartland Cable Commission. It was suggested that several
communities could share the equipment. Tapes could be aired on Cable T.V. or used on
,\,__ individual city's web sites. It was also noted that it would be an excellent way of keeping
accurate records.
Sibley Township has several goals that they would like to work together with Pequot Lakes.
1. Sharing costs on infrastructure that could be utilized by both the City and the
Township. (Especially the areas in Pequot near Sibley Lake that will be in need
of improved sewer systems.)
2. Continued joint work on the Highway 371 backage road proposal.
3. Protecting the lakes from run off with improved sewer systems.
4. Working together to form some sort of orderly plan to plan for possible
Annexation, joint ventures and where sewers should be placed.
Greg Welu suggested that an open discussion be held with the Pequot Lakes and Sibley
Township council members and Planning and Zoning members. He would like this to take
place this summer with Peter Frank in attendance. He felt this would be a good way to get
information out to the general public. It could be handled as a multi-faceted interview with the
goal being to inform the public of the various challenges that we face. Everyone agreed that
this was a great idea and Greg will continue to try to pull this together.
The next scheduled joint meeting was scheduled for Thursday, September 20th at 6:30 p.m. at
Sibley Township Hall.
