MINUTES
PEQUOT LAKES REGULAR PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING
AUGUST 15,2002
PRESENT: Bill Habein, Marty Nelson, Joe Dotty, Cheri Seils, Tom Woog, Craig Nagel,
Mark Hallan, Karl Moon, Dona Trenkenschuh, John Derksen, and Barb Sjoblad.
ZONING ADMINISTRATORS: Charles Marohn and Dennis Slayton.
The meeting was called to order by Craig Nagel, Commission Chairperson, at 6:35 p.m.
APPLICANT: Gerald Calhoun
Applicant requests a Re-zone from Commercial Waterfront(CW)to Residential (R-1).
Mr. Marohn explained his Staff Report. There were no comments from the public.
A motion was made by Karl Moon, seconded by Cheri Seils, to approve the rezone from
Waterfront Commercial(WC)to Residential(R-1). All members voted"aye". Motion
carried.
APPLICANT: Little Pine Properties
Ron Schaefer
6014 North Sleuter Road
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
Mr. Marohn read from his Staff Report which reaffirmed his April findings in which he
recommended denial of the request. However, under"Staff Findings", #1, he would like
the words"is deteriorated and" crossed out.
Mr. Schaefer pointed out that there is commercial property across the street and a Second
Hand Store being operated in a residential zone. Mr. Schaefer was informed that a
Conditional Use Permit had been obtained under the old Ordinance. Mr. Marohn
explained that this request was to rezone which would allow all commercial uses in a
residential neighborhood and that a Conditional Use Permit had specific conditions
attached to it that could not be expanded or modified.
It was agreed by Mr. Schaefer and the Commission that this application should be a part
of the modification of the current zoning map. Mr. Schaefer would not need to reapply
and there would be no additional fees. Mr. Marohn suggested a concept plan be
presented next month and made a pledge to Mr. Schaefer to seek his input regarding this
modification and preliminary map.
