City Council Minutes
August 6, 2013
-----------------------------
9.2. Mayo Lake Park Preserve Development
The City Clerk noted that the Park Commission is recommending that the
development of the Mayo Lake Park Preserve consist of the installation of
a parking area, installation of identification signs and park rule signs, the
expansion of the existing trails, garbage cans and picnic tables and
benches. She stated that the Minnesota Land Trust has authorized the
building of the parking lot and the installation of signs at this time. Staff will
be working with the Minnesota Land Trust with the expansion of the trails.
The Planning Commission is recommending the use of park dedication
funds in the amount of approximately $3,000 for these improvements.
COUNCIL MEMBER GARDNER MOVED TO AUTHORIZE THE USE OF
PARK DEDICATION FUNDS IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $4,000
FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF MAYO LAKE PARK PRESERVE.
COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION
CARRIED 5-0.
9.3. Doq Park
The Clerk informed the Council that the Park Commission is requesting
permission to move forward with the construction of a Dog Park to be
located at Sibley Lake Park. It is proposed that the park be funded with
donations to be raised by the 4-H group.
Council Member Pederson questioned where the park would be located
and stated he would like to see a drawing of the park and a cost for
building the park. Council Member Gardner explained where the park
would be located and concurred that it would be a good idea to provide
the Council with a drawing and more information on the park. Council
Member Sjoblad stated he would like to know the square footage and
wants to see stakes put in the ground to mark the area. He also had a
concern about the barking of the dogs because of the residential nature of
the area. Council Member Sjoblad stated that the proposed area is the
only flat area in the park that is used by those visiting the park for playing
games such as volleyball. Council Member Pederson stated that he would
like more information on a dog park such as the purpose, the necessity of
a park and the regulations.
MAYOR ADAMS MOVED TO TABLE MOVING FORWARD WITH THE
DOG PARK UNTIL THE REQUESTED INFORMATION IS PROVIDED
TO THE COUNCIL. COUNCIL MEMBER GARDNER SECONDED THE
MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5-0.
