PEQUOT LAKES AREA FIRE BOARD <br />MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 12, 2014 MEETING <br />The quarterly meeting of the PLAFB was called to order by Chairman Peterson. The <br />minutes of the last meeting were not read due to a motion by Mayor Adams, second by <br />Sodd, motion passed. Members in attendance were Hart, Benson, Adams, Dubay, Sodd, <br />Weaver, Rudberg, Nelson, Peterson, Donovan, Bartels, and Nancy Malecha representing <br />the City of Pequot Lakes. <br />The fourth quarter fire call report totaled 20 calls. By types there were 9 good intent, 3 <br />assist police department, 2 motor vehicle fires, 2 mutual aid structure, 1 mutual aid RIT <br />team, 1 structure fire (chimney), 1 grass fire assist DNR, and 1 mutual aid tractor fire. By <br />location, there were 9 to Pequot Lakes, 3 to Jenkins Township, 2 to Breezy Point, 2 to <br />Ideal Township, 1 each ta Poplar Township, Crosslake, Maple Township, and Mission <br />Township. Last year there were 18 calls during this period. Fire bills sent during the <br />quarter were 4 that total $1850.00. <br />The fourth quarter training report totaled 21 hours. By types there were 7%z hours live <br />house burn, 3 1/2 hours low angle rescue, 3 hours fire prevention open house, 2 hours fire <br />prevention at Eagle View school, 2 hours chimney fire training trailer, 2 hours ice rescue, <br />and 1 hour higYiway incident safety tactics. . <br />The financial report was the 2013 yearly report. There was $3916.04 more revenue than <br />budgeted. The expenditures were $54,736.21 below budget. Donovan asked if training <br />costs would be more in 2014 with First Responder training. It will be more, but the state <br />training board reimburses the Department for a lot of the cost. Debt service was 0 for <br />2013, but this will be used for a down payment for the chassis of the new engine. <br />Donovan motioned to approve the report, second by Sodd, motion passed. <br />Fire department report for the fourth quarter followed. Kate Petersen rehuned to the <br />Department after a year leave of absence. The Depa.t°tment sponsored a fund raising <br />spaghetti dinner for fire fighter John Hayes wife, Tammy. The event was held at the <br />Trailside Center at the Baptist Church. The event was well attended. Justin Katterehagen <br />is building a 6 foot by 12 foot playhouse to be used as a fund raiser to benefit our <br />Department. Raffle tickets will be sold and the drawing will be in July. Materials and <br />labor were donated. Dean Arnold resigned from the Department due to a job change and <br />adoption of two children. Donations for $100.00 each were received from Harold and <br />Carla Levander and Craig and Claire Nagel. New class III safety vests were purchased <br />for all fire fighters to meet new regulations. A new highway safety stop and slow sign <br />was purchased to help make motorists aware of incidents. Two new safety flash lights <br />were purchased to help direct traffic for highway incidents. Fifteen fire fighters are taking <br />First Responder training classes. Five fire fighters attended a special class on leadership <br />presented by Ken Betterton At Crosby. <br />Our fire fighters should have all First Responder training classes completed by the first of <br />March. There is a meeting in March to resolve issues about a merger for the Department <br />and the present Breezy-Pequot Lakes first responder groups. Several details will have to <br />be decided. <br />
