Police City of Pequot City Hall
218-568-8111 Lakes 218-568-5222
Fax 218-568-5647 Fax 218-568-5860
plpd @pequotlakes-mn.gov 4638 County Road 4 cityhall @pequotlakes-mn.gov
==
Pequot Lakes,MN 56472
www.pequotlakes-mn.gov
November 22, 2005
Mr. Ken Mlaskoch
28345 Mayo Hills Road
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
Dear Mr. Mlaskoch:
I have reviewed your application and site plan and have determined that the new structure
exceeds the allowable maximum square footage for your zoning district by 208 square
feet. Had you applied for a permit prior to construction, I would not have issued the
permit as the additional structure does not conform to the Land Use Ordinance.
The Ordinance allows 2,000 square feet of accessory structure per 2.5 acres in the Rural
Residential Zone, your zoning district. The current structure along with the smaller
structure measure approximately 2,208 square feet.
It seems that you have two options regarding the new structure: (1)Remove the non-
permitted structure,or(2)Apply for an after-the-fact Variance. The fee for the Variance
is$350 and applying for it does not guarantee that the permit will be granted. You still
may need to remove the structure if the Planning Commission chooses to deny your
permit application. If the permit is granted, there could be an additional after-the-fact
permit fee of up to $500.
I have enclosed an Application for a Variance. If you choose to go this route, please
complete it and return it along with the $350 application fee. I will be out of the office
until December 5. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me after that
date.
Sincerely,
Dawn Bittner
Zoning Administrator
CC: Planning Commission
