COMMUNiTYGROWTH
I N S T 1 T U T E
August 1, 2005
Arlen&Mary Sergent
P.O. Box 497
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
Re: Public Hearing for Property Rezoning
PIN 290271402A00009
City of Pequot Lakes
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Sergent,
This letter is to inform you that the public hearing for the rezoning of your property, PIN
290271402A00009, will be held at the regularly scheduled Planning Commission meeting on
Thursday, August 18, 2005. The meeting, held at City Hall, starts at 6:30 p.m. and your public
hearing is the fourth hearing on the agenda.
As you may already know, the City of Pequot Lakes recently adopted a new Land Use and
Subdivision Ordinance. The City is in the process of rezoning all properties within the City to
conform to the new zoning classifications in the Ordinance and to conform to the goals described
in the City's Comprehensive Plan.
The City has proposed to rezone your property from Forestry to Agriculture, as described in the
new Ordinance. The purpose and intent of the Agriculture zone is to provide a zoning
classification for the preservation of family farms and small-scale agricultural uses and to allow
for low density residential development compatible with those uses. Development patterns are
characterized as very low density residential without municipal utility service and with only
limited demand for accessibility. Agriculture zoning should be used to preserve rural character.
For a rezoning, the Commission holds a hearing to review your rezoning and then makes a
recommendation to the City Council. The City Council then makes the final decision. The City
Staff prepares a Staff Report each month for all of the hearings. If you would like a copy of the
report for your hearing, there will be one available at City Hall for you to review one week prior
to the meeting or you can read it online at www.communitygrowth.com/pequot lakes/. More
information about the new zoning classifications and what they mean for you can also be found
at City Hall or online at www.pequotzoning info.
14084 Baxter Drive, Suite 7
Baxter, MN 56425
(218) 828-3064
www.communitygrowth.com
