A
OFFICES IN BRAINERD, CROSSLAKE AND PEQUOT LAKES
July 11, 2005
To: Chuck Marohn, City Planner and
Members of the Pequot Lakes Planning&Zoning Commission
Dear Mr Marohn and Members of Pequot Lakes Planning and Zoning,
The Retail Committee of the Pequot Lakes Office of the Brainerd Lakes Area
Chambers of Commerce met on Thursday, July 7,2005, at the Plaid Duck. Matt
Johnson, Chairman, informed the Committee that the City Council had expressed
concern about portable signs that retail stores are using in Pequot Lakes
g
U ►T ,: Following considerable discussion it was concluded that because of the unique
configuration of our City that portable signs are very important to the retail stores.
Fait 2 = 68-8910 ' Many retailers gave testimony as to the importance of these signs as a way of
communicating with their customer base.
The Retail Committee is therefore recommending that the following standards be
promoted among the area retailers.
- That the stores use standard colors so that the City can maintain a
consistent, uniform and organized appearance., The Committee
recommended black and white portable signs as many businesses
already have them.
- That the portable signs be uniform in size, would not be lighted, would
not be placed on public sidewalks, and would not be placed on city
or co'..'.nty reads.
- The Retail Committee agreed to monitor the portable signs as a
committee and work with the retailers to informally hold to these
agreed standards.
Because these signs are so important to the retailers of Pequot Lakes, it is hoped
that the City will agree to these standards and the self-monitoring of the Retail
Committee.
Sincerely,
The Retail Committee of Pequot Lakes
Brainerd Lakes Area Chambers of Commerce
D
o info @explorebrainerdlakes.com
the a e www.explorebrainerdtakes.com
