Economic Development Committee
October 21, 2008
-----------------------------------------------
Patrick Smith stated that we need to think about the businesses we want and need
for the community and then prioritize them.
Nancy Adams felt that the downtown plan could be an answer to help existing
businesses.
Justin Bolz Andolshek stated that the concept needs buy in. He stated that if
assessments are to be used, businesses need to know how much of an assessment
to anticipate. He further noted that we should continue to build around the trail by
using more benches, swing sets, signs, a kiosk; etc.
Discussion was held regarding whether the concept was ready for Council
approval. Some of the EDC felt that the EDC should request conceptual approval
and to ask for the Council to support the EDC moving forward with the project.
Patrick Smith felt that there should be an implementation plan prior to going to
the Council. Mark Jurchen stated that we must make sure the concept and plan is
market driven.
Sheila Haverkamp stated that Bladc can explore financing ideas. She noted that
the University of MN will analyze the market in the community.
Sheila Haverkamp suggested that Chuck Marohn, and the Chamber, develop a
skeleton plan of implementation ideas to present to the EDC.
It was the consensus of the EDC to form a committee to research ideas for
implementing the plan prior to asking conceptual approval from the Council. The
Committee would consist of Chuck Marohn, Sheila Haverkamp, Dawn Bittner,
Chamber of Commerce Representative, and Mark Jurchen.
4. Next Meeting Date
The next meeting is scheduled for November 18, at 8:00 a.m. The meeting will
focus on the committee findings for the downtown plan implementation and a
presentation by the Chamber of Commerce regarding services they provide.
5. Other Business
No other business
